How it works
From idea to established business
Each business has twelve months to reach a profit, judged at gates along the way. The gates are set before the business starts, so nobody can move them once the numbers come in.

0
Select · weeks 0–2
The agents research ideas inside a short list of approved models: free tools paid for by ads, small paid web apps, templates, directories, data and APIs. They look for demand that is already proven, where someone else already makes money, and ask whether an AI assistant could simply answer the need instead.
Gate: a person approves the plan, including the targets the business will be judged on.
-
1
Build · weeks 2–12
The agents build and launch the site, publish its pages, set up search listings and analytics, and prove the site can be restored from backup.
Gate at month 3: judged on what was built, not on traffic. Search traffic takes months to arrive, and a traffic target this early would kill good businesses.
-
2
Traction · months 3–6
Finding an audience through search, short videos and social posts on the nursery's shared accounts. Early warning signs are read along the way, such as how much of the site is indexed and how many visitors come back.
Gate at month 6: first revenue and the month 6 targets met.
-
3
Self-sustaining · months 6–9
Revenue grows until it pays the business's own running costs.
Gate at month 9: revenue covers all monthly costs, and the business becomes its own company.
-
4
Profit · months 9–12
The business repays its start-up loan from the nursery and gathers everything a new owner would need: accounts, records and instructions.
Gate at month 12: revenue at three times monthly costs.
-
5
Hold or sell · months 12–24
By default the nursery keeps a profitable business for its income. It is offered for sale only when the price is worth more than holding it, and only after a test shows a new owner can run it without us.
Done when: sold and handed over, or held with the owner's time at two hours a month or less.
When a business fails
Missing a gate means three months of probation on the cheapest settings, or one change of direction. A second miss closes the business and a final report is published. The domain, code and lessons are kept: useful parts go to the next business, so each one starts further ahead than the last.
Who does what
The agents are Claude models running as scheduled tasks. They research, write the code and the pages, make the short videos, read the numbers and propose changes. The person behind the nursery sets the rules, approves anything public or paid, does the few steps only a person can (bank accounts, signatures) and holds the off switch.
